Goede Middag
I am contemplating on buying a New Corsa versus Used Astra and don’t know what to do.
New Corsa cost 12,950 Euro 1.2 Liter engine
Used Astra cost 6k Euro 1.8 liter engineWhat other costs are associated with a car ?
+ 1,500 Benzine cost per year
+ tax on engine size ? 1.2 versus 1.8
+ Insurance cost ? does it matter the year / safety rating ?am I missing any other costs beside wear and tear tires / belts / gas
Basically I want to know if its worth it to buy new if I am going to keep the car for 4-6 years.
I looked at it from a petrol standpoint and its only 2,000 euro difference over 4 years from the small engine to the large averaging 15,000km per year.
1 final question ..If paying cash and not trading in a vehicle can you negotiate for a lower price ?
In the US we look at the dealer invoice and tell them we want 500 off the price they paid Which is usually 2,500 less that what the sticker price is. Is this also true in Holland ?
Thanks Everyone !
17 oktober 2012 om 15:30 #17994870Personal, i will never go for a new Car, in the first year a car will lose a lot of what it’s worth if you buy it for aubaout 12.000 euro’s, next year it will be 8 or even 7.000 euro’s.
In my eyes is a good used car as Just as good as a New one..
The Fuel consumption will not be much more for the Astra, i think about by normal use 8 litre on 100kms.
Road tax in Holland Goes on de Car’s Weight, you can find the costs of this on this website:

17 oktober 2012 om 20:35 #17994869I would go for the used car. This is more from the economic point of view. A new car degrades in value faster then a used car, and I’m not really leaning towards a new car against a nice used one.
From the fuel point of view: you can look at the average fuel consumption at the autoweek.nl website. The taxes you pay here, are not based on the engine size, but on the EMPTY weight of the car (Astra G 2.0 Diesel = 1230 kg = 96 euro / month taxes). The insurance you need for a car is at minimum WA insurance and can go to ALL-Risk. The big difference is what the insurance company pays out in case of an accident
WA = Only pays the damage of the other car
WA+ = Pays the damage of the other car + when stolen
ALL-RISK = Pays everything, including damage to your car, which you caused (like hitting a wall or something).About the price of a car: Depends greatly on the price of it off course. The more expensive a car is, the more you can negotiate about it. When you want to buy a car of about 6000 euro’s, and nothing to trade against it, you should be able to negotiate towards 5250 / 5500, also make sure you watch for “RIJKLAAR MAAK KOSTEN”. These are charges the dealer wants you to pay for preparing the car (cleaning, new APK (road legal for a year, not necessary on a new car), fuel, license plates (only for new car, old one already has license plates).
Websites to find a used car:

http://www.autoscout24.nlMake sure you buy it from a dealer, instead of private person as you have more rights and waranty. Also before you go to a dealer, google his name first, there are quiet some bad dealers who scam on the ODO meter (turning back and all).
Well good luck with it anyway.

19 oktober 2012 om 16:05 #17994868It will be quiet a change from Cadillac / Pontiac to european Opel.
Also: How many km are you going to drive per year? If you drive over 20.000 / 25.000 KM, most of the times a DIESEL will be cheaper. You want to drive automatic or manual gear?
19 oktober 2012 om 16:20 #17994867I want an auto but will be buying a stick. I hope to stay under 15000km per year so im going benzine. Dont know what to get the wife wants a small car but i want a large fast one ! Trying to stay under 7k unless new then go for 13max.
19 oktober 2012 om 17:50 #17994866Opel Astra can be bought at ease for under 7K. Then you probably even have a Astra H model. Do you want estate or hatchback version?
GTC version – 3 drs
